Ready for the whole family, pets too.

The government's checklist includes pet food and water. Here's what that means for cats, dogs and small pets, and what to grab if you need to leave.

Food and water for 3 days

Keep at least 3 days of your pet's usual food, so there's no sudden change of diet, and extra bottled water for them on top of the household's. Bigger dogs eat and drink far more than small ones, so plan by size. Our pet packs come in cat, small pet and small, medium and large dog sizes for that reason.

The rest of a pet kit

  • Bowls, and a can opener if their food is in tins
  • Any medicines, with the dose written down
  • A lead, harness or carrier for each pet
  • Copies of vaccination records and the vet's number
  • A recent photo of each pet, in case you're separated
  • Poo bags, a small litter tray or bedding

If you have to leave

Take your pets with you if you can do so safely. Keep carriers where you can reach them, and practise getting cats into them before you need to. Make sure microchip details are up to date.

In a power cut

Fish tanks and heated enclosures for reptiles need a plan: a battery air pump and blankets can buy time. Keep pets away from candles and portable heaters.
